Stress In Dogs – Why Worry?

Stress has a huge impact on dogs.  In this 3 Part Programme, Dr Amber Batson will discuss the effects, cause and management of stress in our dogs focusing on up to date science presented in an easy to understand format for every dog owner, professional and those involved in Rescue.  Amber will use real-life examples in her teachings.

This Online Programme is presented over 3 consecutive Sundays, Commencing Sunday 22nd August 2021 and finishing 5th September 2021.

Each pre-recorded presentation is 3 hours in duration, followed by a 1-hour break, finishing off with a live Q&A Session.

Each pre-recorded presentation and the live Q & A that follows will be available for viewing for one week after the date they take place for those who can’t join us at the designated time.  However, it would be beneficial for those who can join us for the presentations and each Q & A session that follows as this is your time to ask Amber any questions you may have about the information she has presented.  (A viewing link will be emailed to you after each presentation). 

Week 1: Pre-recorded presentation – 22nd August – 3.00pm – 6.00pm AEST

–  How do we know when a dog is stressed?
–  Why does it matter?

Week 2: Pre-recorded presentation – 29th August – 3.00pm – 6.00pm AEST
–  What are the common causes of stress in pet dogs?
–  Including fear, pain, overstimulation, sleep deprivation, training and activity types
–  What happens to the brain and body when it’s under stress and the effects on behaviour and health.
Break:  6.00pm – 7.00pm
Live Q&A session:  7.00pm – 7.45pm

Week 3: Pre-recorded presentation – 5th September – 3.00pm – 6.00pm AEST
–  What can we do to help our dogs?
–  Practical applications of meeting a dog’s needs more effectively so we can reduce their stress.
–  How to set up the home and walk environment to reduce stressful situations.
–  What do we do at that moment when something unexpected happens.
–  Resolving common problems that cause stress, such as visiting the vets, groomers and loud noises.
Break:  6.00pm – 7.00pm
Live Q&A session:  7.00pm – 8.00pm

3 weeks – 3 Pre-recorded Presentations, 3 Live Question and Answer sessions and a certificate of attendance.
Live Q&A Sessions are conducted via Zoom.

About Dr Amber Batson
Amber is a Vet and Behaviourist who graduated from the Royal Veterinary College, London in 1999. She undertook a number of behaviour qualifications starting soon after graduation and has spent the last 20 years building behavioural science into her daily work with dogs, horses, cats and rabbits. Amber continues to work part-time in vet practice but also offers vet behaviour consultations as well as teaching behaviour principles internationally and working as a legal expert witness. She aims to provide up to date science from a practical perspective, believing that well taught, anyone can learn science-based principles in a way that can best help prevent and resolve behavioural issues to enhance the lives of our pets and the relationships we enjoy with them.
