The Feline
Bones are important to the feline, from the kitten to the adult cat.  The earlier we begin our cats on bones, the more nutrients they are gaining from a very early age.

The bones we suggest are: Chicken Frames, Wings and even Legs.

If you are having trouble introducing bones to your cat, you can try slightly searing the bone in very hot coconut oil with a tiny dab of vegemite (they love it).  Please don’t cook the bone, just sear the outside.  You can also bash the bone with a rubber hammer to break it up slightly to allow your cat to pull meat, skin and fat from the bone.

You may be in for a bit of a struggle at the beginning, but if you persevere it will end up a distant memory.

Unlike dogs, cats may not need a bone every day.  If you can feed at least 2 – 3 bones a week you are doing well.

Please don’t deny your cat their bone.  Please don’t leave your cat unattended when they are eating a bone.

How often do we feed?

  • 4 times a day from 8 weeks – 3 months of age
  • 3 times a day from 3 months – 6 months of age
  • Twice a day from 6 months onwards

How much do we feed?
Please be aware that the following information is only a guide to your feeding regime.

Obviously quantities will depend on levels of exercise, health and breed.

The easiest way to work this out is on the percentage of body weight according to age.

Kittens
5% – 6% of body weight per day
or
50 – 60gr per kg of body weight per day

Divide that amount into the number of meals you are feeding – a bone is classed as a meal.

Healthy Adult Cat
3% – 4% of body weight per day
or
30 – 40gr per kg of body weight per day

Divide that amount into the number of meals you are feeding – a bone is classed as a meal.

NOTE: Please ensure your pets have fresh, clean water daily, preferably purified water in a stainless steel bowl.
